Need to vote absentee?

Connecticut expanded access to absentee voting this year by eliminating the requirement that voters provide a specific reason or excuse to request an absentee ballot, including for referenda.

Special procedures apply to the Beecher referendum. The Town Clerk has posted details including this:

Town Clerk’s instructions for the Beecher referendum: special short-notice procedures for in-person voting and absentee ballots, including the required ED-3R application form and the 8:00 p.m. Referendum Day deadline.

The ballot, explanatory text and absentee instructions are now available at the Town Clerk’s office (check the Town website for more information).

Property owner? You may be eligible to vote from the Grand List!

Under state law (C.G.S. §7-6), a person who is not a Woodbridge elector may nevertheless vote if that person is a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and liable to the Town for taxes on property assessed at $1,000 or more on Woodbridge’s Grand List. This is commonly referred to as voting from the Grand List.

Voting from the Grand List does not require you to be a registered Woodbridge voter — or be registered to vote elsewhere — to vote in the Beecher referendum. Someone who lives in another town or another state, for example, but meets the statutory requirements through qualifying Woodbridge property may be entitled to vote on the Beecher referendum — if you are unsure, check with the Town Clerk (email: townclerk@woodbridgect.gov or call: 203-389-3432).
